pressures in the pulm circulation greater than 25 (normal 4-12)
pulm HTN
abdominal contents herniate through diaphragm into the chest compressing contents of thorax
bowel sounds in middle to lower chest, lower chest, abdominal or epigastric pain that radiates to the l shoulder, dyspnea, decreased breath sounds on affected side, heart sounds shifted to r side of chest, signs of obstructive shock, dysphagia
ruptured diaphragm
rapid onset of general symptoms over 48 hrs
chest X-ray shows pulm infiltrates w normal cardiac silhouette
lungs become stiff and fibrotic
pulm edema causing increased capillary permeability (caused by sepsis, pancreatitis, drowning, aspiration, PNA, trauma, inhalation injuries)
resp distress syndrome
