  • Acute lung inflammation
  • Diffuse alveolar damage and increased vascular permeability
  • Fluid leakage
  • Bilateral lung infiltrates
  • Hypoxaemia(Pa O2/ FiO2<200)
  • Normal left ventricular function
  • Respiratory failure often requiring mechanical ventilation
