ARDS Flashcards
1
Q
ARDS pathophysiology
A
- Acute lung inflammation
- Diffuse alveolar damage and increased vascular permeability
- Fluid leakage
- Bilateral lung infiltrates
- Hypoxaemia(Pa O2/ FiO2<200)
- Normal left ventricular function
- Respiratory failure often requiring mechanical ventilation
2
Q
The 3 stages in COPD
A
Exudative stage
Proliferative stage
Fibrotic stage

Q
Causes of ARDS
A
1.sepsis
2.aspiration of gastric contents
3.Severe pneumonia
4.trauma,burn,blast injury
5.inhalation of fumes
6.massive blood transfusion
7.Acute pancreatitis
8.SARS
4
Q
Clinical features of ARDS
A
Background clinical problem
Worsening tachycardia
Dyspnoea
Increased need for oxygen
Diffuse lung crackles
B/L lung infiltrates
5
Q
DDs of ARDS
A
cardiogenic pulmonary oedema
Acute interstitial pneumonia
6
