What are the first four rules and procedures for the class?
- follow all signals while shooting
- Whistle commands
1= shoot
2= get bow
3= get arrows
5= DANGER! - when you hear the 5 whistle code: stop shooting, hang you bow and return to the waiting line. if in mid-draw, do not release arrow, relax string, put arrow in quiver, put bow away, and return to waiting line
- when your done shooting, put your bow away and stand behind the waiting line
What are the last four rules and procedures for the class?
- do not nock your arrow (put it on the string) until you are given the shoot command.
- when you pull your arrows out, stand to the side of the target. Pull the highest and closest to you first.
- let the teacher know if any equipment is damaged.
- don’t use any damaged equipment
what does anchor point mean?
the place where you pull the string back to. index finger at the corner of your mouth.
what is an arm guard
a leather pad you wear on your arm for protection
what is the arrow rest
where you set the arrow on the bow before shooting.
what is the index feather or fletching
the different colored feather that is always pointed away from the bow.
what is the handle
the grip in the middle of the bow, where you hold the bow.

an arrow that lands in the scoring area of the target

the groove in the end of the in which the string is placed

the point on the string at which an arrow is placed (below)

the tip of the arrow, the sharp end

a mark used in sighting upon which the tip of the arrow is aimed

a receptacle for carrying or holding arrows

letting the arrow and string go, shooting an arrow

the front of the target where scoring occurs-usuallt replaceable
what are the 11 steps to archery success?
- Stance- open foot and shoulder width position (bows on toes)
- Nock arrow- grab arrow below fletching, up and over verticle bow
- draw hand set- hook string in archer’s groove
- bow hand set center bow’s grip under the lifeline of the bow hand. bow hand knuckles should form 30-45 degree angle
- pre-draw- hinge the bow and drawing arm to eye level. rotate arm, elbow down and away
- draw- with arm parallel to ground, smoothly pull string towars face
- anchor- index finger tip at corner of mouth
- aim- align string to dominate eye and arrow point to target
- shot set-up- while aiming: think about: use back muscle, begin slight rearward movement of the draw arm and shoulder
- release- relax hooked finger and back of draw hand all at once
- follow through/reflect- the drawing hand continues back, paint the face, until thumb touches or is near shoulder.
