Aquatic Exercise Flashcards
buoyancy
upward force generated by the volume of water displaced- opposite to gravity
can unweigh or provide resitance
dependent on body comp and air in lungs
buoyancy assisted
this occurs when movement is in the same direction as the force of buoyancy
lift arm or leg toward water surface
Buoyancy supported
a movement that is perpendicular to the force of buoyancy
standing in water
buoyancy resisted
describes a movement that opposes the force of buoyancy
lifting leg toward surface is assisted, but lowering it is resisted
why is the aquatic environment “protective”
if person experiences pain and stops moving, the force drops instantly allowing excellent control
if someone is not strong enough to produce greater force, then greater force will not be exerted upon them
special considerations of aquatic exercise
physiological effects of CV, renal, and neurological systems
