Aquatic Flashcards
What are the 4 lake zones?
- Littoral zone
- Limnetic zone
- Profundal zone
- Benthic zone
What is littoral zone?
Area from the shore of a lake or pond to the point where no more plants grow in the lake bottom.
What is Limnetic zone?
Area of a lake or pond in which there is open water and sufficient light for photosynthesis to occur
What is Profundal zone
Region of a lake beneath the Limnetic zone, in which there is insufficient light for photosynthesis to occur
What is Benthic zone
The lowest ecological zone in a water body, usually involves the sediments at the sea floor
What are the two water pollutions
Eutrophic
Oligotrophic
What is Eutrophic?
High nutrient levels,high photosynthesis,murky water,O2 poor
What is oligotrophic?
Low nutrient levels, photosynthesis-limited, clear water,O2 rich
