Aqidah
Set of beliefs that one must hold as a Muslim, without which their imam many not be complete.
Belief: Allah SWT, Angles, Messengers, divine books, day of J., fate, life after death, the good and the evil are from Allah SWT
Shahadah
Declaration of faith, testimony:
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ
Haqo-qul-Allah
Rights of Allah SWT on His SWT slaves- fasting and praying
Haqo-Qul-Ibad
Rights of people on us
Ask people for forgiveness- if person passed away ask Allah SWT for forgiveness, if the person is far ask Allah SWT to soften their heart to forgive
Belief in Qadr
Happiness, sadness, ease, and difficulties are all from Allah SWT- this should bring us closer to Allah SWT
Pray to Allah SWT during difficult times turn to Allah SWT
Surah Baqarah: 285
The messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Rabb and (so have) the believers. All of them believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, (saying); we make no distinction between any of his messengers.
Jami Tirmizi Hadith: tenants of faith
The prophet SAW said “I have faith in Allah and His angels, His books, and His messengers, and the day of J., and all the good and evil and fate is from. Almighty Allah and indeed there there will be resurrection after death”
What is the role of aqidah today?
The success of the hereafter is dependent on correct aqidah
Aqidah helps understand Islam better- core foundation
What is the role of Shahadah?
Recite verbally in front of witness to profess faith
Whispered into newborn babies- 1st thing they hear and athan
If possible recite before death
Why is Aqidah important?
Aqidah differentiated between beliefs of other religions of the world
To have full conviction that what we believe in is correct
When you have correct belief, you will not be misguided by those who claim to hold the beliefs of Islam
Ahlus-sunnah wal-Jama’ah
Refers to all people who follow the sunnah of the Prophet SAW.
Hadiths pertaining to ahlus-sunnah wal- jama’ah
- “Adhere to my sunnah and the sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs that come after me. Bite upon with your molar teeth and beware of newly invented matters (in creed/actions) for certainly every newly invented matter is bidah and every bidah is misguidance”. Musnad Ahmed
- The prophet SAW said “It is an obligation to stick to the jama’ah for indeed Allah SWT will not unite the ummah of Muhammad SAW upon misguidance”. Ibn Majah
Conc: the prophet SAW explicitly pointed out to stick with jama’ah who represents the beliefs of the alhus-sunnah wal-jama’ah

Isnad- chain of transmission
What is the importance of Al-Isnad?
The student of Imam Hanifa said “al-Isnad is a part of religion, and if it was not for the Isnad then one would have said what they desired”.
