zanj rebellion
between 869-883, enslaved east africans and many arab workers started a series of revolts called the zanj rebellion, in which these enslaved people successfully captured the city of basra and held it for 10 years until it was defeated, making it one of the most successful slave revolts in history
griots/griottes
these people possessed encyclopedic knowledge of fmaily lineages and the lives and deeds of great leaders. They preserved people’s history and passed it from generation to generation
