April 4th Flashcards
Where do blood vessels enter/leave the kidney?
Renal hilus
What is the outer covering of the kidney?
renal capsule
List the two layers of the kidney
cortex (outer) medulla (darker, inner)
What makes up the renal medulla?
renal pyramids
What do you call the apex of the renal pyramid?
renal papilla
Describe the flow from the renal papilla
renal papilla projects into minor calyx, minor calyces form major calyces, forms renal pelvis (continuous with ureter
What is the space in the kidney called?
renal sinus
What is the trigone openings formed by, and why is this area special?
only place where wall of bladder is smooth
composed of urethral orifice and the two ureter openings
what is inside the testis, what covers part of the testis?
inside: seminiferous tubules (produce spermatazoa)
covering: epididymis - head, body, tail
where do the vas deferens come from/run within
comes from: epididymis tail
runs within: spermatic cord
what does the spermatic cord go through & run in?
goes through superficial inguinal ring
runs in inguinal canal
goes through deep inguinal ring into pelvic cavity
what is behind the superficial inguinal ring and helps strengthen it?
conjoint tendon
what is behind the urinary bladder and vas deferens?
seminal vesicle (above prostate gland in humans)
what is below the urinary bladder?
prostate gland
what are the parts of the uterus?
fundus, body, and cervix
what attaches the uterus to the pelvis, and what does its uppermost free border attach to?
broad ligament, attaches to oviducts (fallopian tubes)
what is continuous with the proximal end of the uterus?
uterine tubes, ends in infundibulum. projections from infundibulum are fimbriae
what attaches the ovaries to the uterus?
ovarian ligaments
what passes through the inguinal canal and superficial inguinal ring in females
round ligament
