Approach Callouts (10/28/2024) Flashcards
What is Vref?
1.3 times the stalling speed in the stated landing configuration and at the prevailing aircraft weight
IMC callouts are ___________ _______________ and VMC callouts are _____________ _______________ _________________
Above minimums, above airport elevation
Initial approach, first flap setting
Action: (PM) Approach Checklist
Callout:
(PF) “Flaps ______, approach checklist”
(PM) “Selected”
(PM) “Approach checklist complete”
Final approach, gear down selected
Action: (PM) Landing checklist
Callout:
(PF) “Gear down, landing checklist”
(PM) “Selected”
(PM) “Gear down, 3 green”
(PM) “Landing checklist complete”
Localizer, glideslope or VOR intercept, movement of needle from pegged position
Action: (PM) Monitors instruments
Callout:
(PM) “Course alive” or “Glideslope’s alive”
After LOC, GS or VOR capture
- Deviation of one dot of course
- Deviation one dot high on glideslope
- Deviation below glideslope
Action: (PM) Monitors instruments
Callouts:
(PM) “Course”
(PF) “Correcting”
(PM) “Glideslope”
(PF) “Correcting”
(PM) Continuous calls of “Glideslope, glideslope”
(PF) “Correcting”
Final approach
- Airspeed above Vref +30
- Airspeed below Vref
- Sink rate exceeds 1,000 FPM
Action: (PM) Monitors instruments
Callouts:
(PM) “Ref plus _________, sinking _________”
(PM) Continuous calls of “Airspeed, airspeed”
(PM) “Sink rate”
Final approach, over final approach fix (FAF)
Action: (PM) Checks FAF altitude, cross checks instruments
Callouts:
(PM) “Altitude and instruments cross check”
Final approach (IMC)
- 1,000 feet above minimums
- 500 feet above minimums
- 200 feet above minimums
- Approaching minimums
Action: (PM) Monitors instruments
Confirms aircraft is stabilized on the approach. If aircraft is not stabilized by 500 feet above minimums a missed approach must be executed
Callouts:
(PM) “1,000 feet above minimums, “Stable” or “Unstable, go around”
(PM) “500 feet above minimums”
(PM) “200 feet above minimums”
(PM) “Approaching minimums”
Minimums with contact
- Visual reference with the surface
- Approach lights in sight
- Runway in sight
Callout:
(PM) “Ground contact”
(PM) “Approach lights in sight, continue”
(PM) “Runway in sight”
(PF) “Runway in sight, landing”
Minimums with no contact
- Decision altitude (DA)
- Missed approach point (MAP)
Callout:
(PM) “Minimums, go around”
(PF) “Going around”
(PM) “Missed approach point, go around”
(PF) “Going around”
Final approach in VMC or transition from instrument approach to VMC, 500 feet above field
Action: Confirms aircraft is stabilized on the approach. If aircraft is not stabilized by 500 feet AGL a missed approach must be executed.
Callout:
(PM) “500 feet above elevation, Ref plus ________, “Stable” __________ or “Unstable, go around”
Landing
- Application of reverse thrust
- Clearing the runway or equivalent
Action: Confirms spoiler (air brake) and thrust reverser deployment
Call airspeeds in 10 knot increments to 60 knots
(PM) After Landing Checklist
Callout:
(PM) “Spoilers (air brake) deployed, two (one) in reverse”
(PM) “100, 90, 80, 70, 60”
(Left Seat Pilot) “After landing checklist”
(Right Seat Pilot) “After landing checklist complete”
Briefing an approach
PF will fly approach
PF hand responsibility off to PM (“You have control”, “I have control”)
PF briefs the approach heads down
PF takes back control
