A thin-film analyzer is used for measurement of layer thickness from a dopant application onto a wafer prior to a diffusion process, but the analyzer software interface was difficult to understand for the operators, lacked useful standard operating procedures, which ultimately led to inaccuracies in the measurements.
I was tasked with creating a standard operating procedure that was more user friendly for the operators, with clear steps of operations, along with better training to enable a critical understanding of the equipment and its use.
I used to analyzers’ operating manual to create simple directions to obtain the measurement, added pictures, symbols, screenshots of the software, and also simple troubleshooting steps when the software faced operating issues. I gathered feedback from my proposed procedure from the production team through conversations and meetings, made adjustments and modifications, and released the procedure to production.
As a result of my efforts and collaboration with the production team, I was able to train the operators to use the equipment and software correctly, with a crucial understanding of the importance of the measurement method itself. The measurements achieved better accuracy by operator use and I was better able to monitor slight changes in spin coater behavior for wafer diffusion.
