What is application software?
Application software is end-user software used to accomplish a variety of tasks.
What are the different types of application software?
General-purpose applications, specialized applications, and mobile apps.
What are general-purpose applications?
Word processing programs, spreadsheets, presentation software, and database management systems.
What are specialized applications?
Programs focused on specific disciplines and occupations.
What are mobile apps?
Mobile applications are programs designed for cell phones and tablets.
What is user interface?
User interface is the portion of the application that allows users to interact with the program.
What is GUI?
Graphical user interface is used by most general-purpose applications, which displays graphical elements also called ‘icons’ to represent objects.
What is an icon?
An icon is a graphical element that represents familiar objects.
What is a pointer?
A pointer is controlled by the mouse and used to select items such as icons.
What is a window?
A window is a rectangular area that can contain a document, program, or message. Multiple windows can be opened and displayed on a screen at a time.
What is included in standard GUI?
Menus, tool bars, and dialogue boxes.
What is a menu?
A menu is typically displayed in a menu bar at the top of the screen.
What is a tool bar?
Tool bars appear below the menu bar and include bottons.
What are buttons?
Buttons are small graphical elements that provide shortcuts to commonly used commands.
What are dialogue boxes?
Dialogue boxes provide additional information and request user input.
What is included in ribbon GUI?
Ribbon GUI, which is mainly used in microsoft applications, includes ribbons, tabs, and galleries.
What is a ribbon?
Ribbons organize commonly used commands into sets of related activities, replacing toolbars and menus. These activities are displayed as tabs and appear in the first ribbon.
What is a tab?
Tabs divide the ribbon into major activity areas and are then organized into groups that contain related items.
What is a group?
A group is a collection of related tabs.
What is a gallery?
Galleries provide additional options and simplify choosing an option by showing the effect.
What are some common features?
Some common features include the spell checker, alignment, font and font sizes, character effects, edit options, and find and replace.
What is a spell checker?
A spell checker looks for misspelled words.
What is alignment?
Alignment centres, right aligns, or left aligns characters and numbers.
What is fonts and font sizes?
Fonts and font sizes specify the size and style of the entered characters and numbers.
What is character effects?
Character effects provide a variety of type faces such as bold or italics.
What is edit options?
Edit options provide easy ways to edit text such as cut, copy, and paste.
What is find and replace?
Find and replace searches a document for a specific word or phrase. It also includes the ability to replace the word/phrase with something else.
