General-purpose applications, Specialized applications, Mobile Apps
General-purpose applications
Word processing programs, spreadsheets, presentation software, and database management systems
Specialized applications
Focused on specific disciplines and occupations
Mobile Apps
Designed for smartphones and tablets
User Interface
Portion of application that allows control and interaction with program. Common features include spell check, alignment, fonts and font sizes, etc.
Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Displays graphical elements called icons to represent familiar objects
Standard GUI includes
Menus, Toolbars, Dialog boxes
Menus
Present commands displayed in menu bar at top of screen
Toolbars
Appear below menu bar and include small graphic elements (buttons) that provide shortcuts for commands
Dialog boxes
Additional information and request user input
Ribbon GUI
Changes based on needs of user. Replace toolbars and menus by organizing commands into sets of related activities

Graphics, Video Game Design Software, Web Authoring Programs Etc.
Graphics Specialized Application
Desktop publishing programs, Image editors, Illustration programs, Video Editors
Web Authoring Programs
Creating a site. Almost all website consist or interrelated web pages. Typically HTML and CSS documents. WYSIWYG (Build page without interacting directly with HTML code)
