Technique that allows organic substances to be heated for a long time whilst minimising loss of substances to the atmosphere. Heating a reaction to boiling point temp of reaction solvent and using a condenser to reconvene the vapours back into the reaction flask. Allows a longer reaction time so reaction can complete
