16
Q

management of appendicitis

A
  1. Prompt appendicectomy
  2. Antibiotics: Cefuroxime and Metronidazole (anaerobic)
  3. Laparoscopy - diagnostic and therapeutic advantages
17
Q

possible complications of appendicitis

A
  1. Perforation
  2. Appendix mass; Occurs when the inflamed appendix becomes covered with omentum
  3. Appendix abscess; May occur if appendix mass fails to resolve. Treatment involves drainage and antibiotics
18
Q

prognosis of appendicitis

A

Uncomplicated appendicitis - most people recover with no long-term problems
Ruptured appendix - greater risk of complications/death
