Selective inhibits factor Xa, decreasing thrombin generation and thrombus development.

What are some common side effects of Apixaban?
• Bleeding: minor bleeding such as nosebleeds or gum bleeding
• Bruising: more bruising than usual.
• Gastrointestinal issues: nausea or stomach upset.
• Fatigue: Feeling unusually tired and weak.

What are the indications for Apixaban?
• Reduction of risk of stroke
• Systemic embolism with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation
• DVT prophylaxis after hip or knee replacement surgery
• Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
• Pulmonary embolism (PE)

What are the contraindications for Apixaban?
• Patients hypertensive to drug
• Cautiously in patients at risk for severe bleeding
• Not recommended for patients with severe hepatic impairment
• Not recommended for patients with prosthetic heart valves.
• Bleeding risk is increased in patients with severe renal impairment.
