Vice President
An officer created by Article II of the U.S. Constitution to preside over the U.S Senate and to fill any vacancy in the office of president due to death, resignation, removal, or since 1970, disability.
The vice president is like a persons best friend that is there to help them make harsh choices and to help them in life.
Twenty-Second Amendment
Adopted in 1951; prevents presidents from serving more than two terms, or more than ten years if they came to office via the death, resignation, or removal of their predecessor.
The 22 Amendment is the law that keeps people in check so that they do not abuse their power.
Watergate
A scandal in the early 1970s involving a break-in at the Democratic National Committee offices in the Watergate office complex. The involvement of members of the Nixon administration and subsequent cover-up attempts led to President Richard Nixon resignation from office and jail sentences for some members of his administration.
This Watergate scandal is like that one issue that a person does in their life that comes back to haunt them.
Executive Privilege
An implied presidential power that allows the president to refuse to disclose information regarding confidential conversations or national security to Congress or the Judiciary.
The executive privilege is like the child that can say no to their parents.
U.S. v Nixon
Supreme Court ruling on power of the president holding that no absolute constitutional executive privilege allows a president to refuse to comply with a court order to produce information needed in a criminal trial.
The U.S v Nixon ruling was a tragic event and it reminds me of the time when I got a head of myself and I got int trouble with my dad for doing some thing criminal.
Presidential Succession Act
A 1947 law enacted by Congress that provides for the filling of any simultaneous vacancy of the presidency and vice presidency.
The PSA is important because its similar to the time when
my grandmother died and her brother had to take over running the family market in Mexico.
Twenty-Fifth Amendment
Adopted in 1967 to establish procedures for filling vacancies in the office of president and vice president as well as providing for procedures to deal with the disability of a president.
The 25 Amendment was important to the time because it was basically telling people we need bodies in office so use it or lose it.
Cabinet
The formal body of presidential advisers who head the fifteen executive departments. Presidents often add others to this body of formal advisers.
The cabinet is like your close group of friends that help you go through life and you need them for help.
League of Nations
A multilateral diplomatic organization that existed from 1920-1946 that sought, unsuccessfully, to prevent future wars; that United States never joined.
The League of Nations was like the group of friends that help a each other stay on top of things and to get things done.
Executive Agreements
Formal international agreements entered into by the president that do not require the advice and consent of the U.S Senate.
The Executive Agreements is like the voice in your mind that tells you to do something wild when you should not.
Veto
The formal, constitutional authority of the president to reject bills passed by both houses of Congress, thus preventing them from becoming law without further congressional action.
The veto is that rejection that you give to a man at the bar because he has nothing that is good to you.
Pardon
An executive grant providing restoration of all rights and privileges of citizenship to a specific individual charged with or convicted of a crime.
The pardon is when you do something wild the Friday night and you have to see your parents and explain to them what happened on that night in the morning.
inherent powers
Powers that belong to the President because they can be inferred from the Constitution.
The inherent powers are like the powers that the popular people have at school because they can do what they want.
First Lady
The designation provided to the wife of a president or, at the state level, of a governor; no specific analogue exists for a male spouse.
The first lady is like the popular girl at school that is the main hoe that is important to the other people.
Executive Office of the President (EOP)
A mini-bureaucracy created in 1939 to help the president oversee the executive branch bureaucracy.
This EOP is like the people in your life that help you make important choices in your life.
