Apex- Chemo agents Flashcards
Match each chemo agent with its unique side effect:
Cisplatin, Bleomycin, Doxorubicin
Pulmonary toxicity, renal toxicity, cardiac toxicity
Cisplatin + Renal toxicity
Bleomycin + Pulmonary toxicity
Doxorubicin + Cardiac toxicity
(x = cross my heart and hoope to die)
Key Side effect of:
Cisplatin (2)
nephrotoxicity and acoustic nerve injury
Key Side effect of:
Vincristine and vinblastine
peripheral neuropathy
Key Side effect of:
Bleomycin
pulm fibrosis
*keep FiO2 < 30%
Key Side effect of:
Doxorubicin
cardiotoxicity
*Doxy, X, cross my heart and hope to die
Key Side effect of:
5-flurouracil
Bone marrow supression
Key Side effect of:
Methotrexate
Bone marrow supression
Which to chemo agents cause bone marrow supression
methotrexate and 5-flurouracil
which 2 chemo agents cause peripheral neuropathy
vincristine and vinblastine
which chemo agent is linked to cardiotoxicity
doxorubicin
which chemo agent is linked to renal toxicity
cisplatin
which chemo agent is linked to acoustic nerve injury
cisplastin
Descibe chemo man
Label whether the chemo agent is an alkalating agent, tubulin-binding drug, antitumor antibiotic, or antimetabolite:
Cisplatin
Alkalating agent
acoustin nerve injury and kidneys
Label whether the chemo agent is an alkalating agent, tubulin-binding drug, antitumor antibiotic, or antimetabolite:
Vincristine and vinblastine
Tubulin-binding drugs
peripheral neuropathy
Label whether the chemo agent is an alkalating agent, tubulin-binding drug, antitumor antibiotic, or antimetabolite:
Bleomycin
auntitumor antibotic
+ doxorubicin
Label whether the chemo agent is an alkalating agent, tubulin-binding drug, antitumor antibiotic, or antimetabolite:
doxoruicin
antitumor antibiotic
+ bleomycin
Label whether the chemo agent is an alkalating agent, tubulin-binding drug, antitumor antibiotic, or antimetabolite:
5-flurouracil
antimetabolitie
bone marrow supression
Most chemotherapeutic agents cause what 2 things
what is the exception
bone marrow supression and thrombocytopenia
Bleomycin
Just remember, think about the chemo agent they are on - will it alter the PK/PD of your anesthetic agents if the agent affects the heart, kidneys, or liver?
just a thought lol
4 key thoughts when you have someone on chemo
1- labs, risk for bleeding - most cause bone marrow supression and thrombocytopenia
2- lytes- could be volume depleted if isisues with N/V (hgb may be falsely elevated if this is the case)
3- get a good look at their mucous membranes and ask them about it- may have to avoid OPA/NPA/ LMA/ Eso temp probe if +mucositis
4- what agent are they are - if it affects heart, liver , kidneys - the PK/PD profile of your agents might be altered
What is tamoxifen
s/e
risk
selective estrogen receptor modulator
-tumors that do not express estorgen receptors are not responsive to tamoxifen
hot flashes
increased risk of endometrial cancer
