AP patterning Flashcards
what is a hox gene
homeotic gene. controls the development of the body plan. its coding sequence contains homeodomains for DNA binding. these genes give unique identity to the body segments along the AP axis. expressed in a collinear fashion
collinearity
Hox gene expression is correlated with its position on the chromosome. the 3’ gene is expressed first. and anteriorly.
what happens when you move the gene closer to the telomere
it starts to express earlier
how do you achieve ectopic expression of the hox gene
place it closer to a gene with a strong enhancer sequence. it will share the other genes endogenous expression
what and where is the RA gradient
high to low from anterior to posterior spinal cord and from hindbrain to forebrain.
