AP Hip Flashcards
How should the feet be positioned for the AP projection of the hip? Why?
Feet internally rotated 15-20 degrees to bring femoral neck parallel with IR
Explain the hip localization technique. Where is the femoral neck? Femoral head?
Draw a line from ASIS to Superior margin of
Pubic Symphysis
Draw another perpendicular to the midpoint
of the 1st line.
Femoral Head: 1 ½” down
Femoral Neck: 2 ½” down
What is the central ray location?
At femoral neck, 2.5” down from the perpendicular midpoint line
How should the femoral neck be placed in relationship to the IR?
Parallel
How is the central ray in relationship to the femoral neck?
Perpendicular
How is the greater trochanter demonstrated on this image?
In profile laterally
How is the femoral neck demonstrated on this image?
Femoral neck seen without foreshortening
Where should the lesser trochanter be seen on this image?
Seen medially just slightly
When performing the AP projection on a patient with an orthopedic appliance, what 2 things should be done?
AEC turned off, get all of the prosthesis in one image
How much of the femur should be demonstrated in the AP projection?
Proximal 1/3 of femur
