AP Chem: Unit 5 Flashcards
What is the zero order?
[A] vs. time, slope = -k, half-lives decrease
What is the first order?
In [A] vs. time, slope = -k, half-lives constant, T 1/2 formula
What is the second order?
1/[A] vs. time, slope = k, half-lives increase
What is the half-life formula?
0.693/k
What is differential law?
It tells you how the rate of a reaction depends on the concentration of reactant(s).
What is integrated law?
It tells you how the concentration of reactant(s) depends on time.
What is a catalyst?
A molecule that goes from a reactant to a product
What is an intermediate?
A molecule or compound that either changes to a reactant or is left over after using a reaction mechanism.
What is an elementary step?
A single transformation in an overall reaction mechanism
Should intermediates appear in rate laws?
No
What is the formula fo a rate law?
rate= k[A]^m[X]^n
