When should PNT be used?
PNT must be used in the resolution of high risk situations.
PNT should also be considered in any other instance where it is believed a trained negotiator will be of assistance to Police in the performance of their duties.
What are the three negotiator squads?
- PNT (Police Negotiation Team)
District PNT - APNT (Advanced Police Negotiation Team)
Enhanced capability for major incidents (sieges, hostages, terrorist, kidnapping etc). - IRF (International Response Team)
Supports internal/external agencies such as Police Executive, MFAT. Made up of APNT members.
Incidents which warrant PNT deployment?
Armed Offenders Suicidal people (incl via comms) Search warrants WTA's Kidnap for ransom Unarmed barricaded offender(s) Cell extractions People in crisis/mental distress (incl via comms) Hostage situations Terrorist incidents issues motivated groups or individuals (protests) Any other situation that my be resolved by negotiation
Assisting Corrections Service (MOU in place)
What are the positions on a PNT operation?
- Primary Negotiator
- Secondary Negotiator
- Team Leader
- Log keeper
Complex incidents may also include: Negotiation Capability Advisor / Negotiation Co-Ord NCA / Co-Ord assistance Situation Boards Team leader assistant Runner / Logistics Admin staff Family liaison / IWO
Intel Officer
Psychiatrist, psychologist or other medical staff (advisory)
