AORTA Flashcards

1
Q

AORTA intent

A

Piece developed by Stephanie Lake, Chunky Move - Melbourne

Explores the systems of the biological body, drawing inspiration from the veins, the blood, the cells and the muscles

Particular movements representative of the heart -> crawling/rolling across the floor, quiver like blood cells hurtling along a distant capillary

Triangle section (BEST):

A

Choreographic devices - of rehearsal (originally blood, nervous system and liver) then (liver, nervous system and blood).

Lifecycle section:

A

They use the space in a horizontal form - representative of an embryo -> new born -> crawling -> walking.

Q

Example of sound:

A

The soundscape throughout the performance helps to contrast with the different sections of the performance - whether they are slipping and sliding like liver across the space, quivering like blood cells from a distant capillary or using vibratory movement like the nervous system. An example from the performance is in the seen triangle, where formers reenact different bodily functions…
The quick repetitive electric tones and beats help to represent these functions with a main focus on the nervous system.

Q

Projections?

A

Heavily used throughout the performance - it helps to enable viewers to understand the contrast in sections and also extend the boundaries of contemporary dance, enabling the viewers eyes to wonder from the three screens back to the dancers.

Projections can be vertical lines, cells moving from each projection and swirling type patterns.

The section fives has a relatively significant time beat and uses projections - the projections on the three screens consist of cell particles that change direction every time five counts has passed.

Q

Elements of dance BODY

A

Triangle: Blood - open and expansive movement,
N.S: angular, asymmetrical (lots of movement changes and dynamics)
Liver: curved, angular and takes dancers across the floor.

Q

Elements of dance SPACE

A

Triangle: a set formation where dancers accumulate movement from one point of the triangle to another - being representative of the blood, the liver and the nervous system.

Life cycle: dancers travel across the space representative of a developing lifecycle - they first begin as embryos with a background of water - representing the inside of the tummy, they then become new borns that evidentially begin to crawl and then walk.
