what demographics are MC in generalized anxiety disorder
- 2x common in women
- MC in 35+
what is the diagnostic criteria for GAD
basically excessive worry about multiple things for at least 6 months
what are the screening tools used to diagnose GAD
- initial is GAD-7
- then Beck anxiety inventory
what is the first line treatment for GAD
also give second line and short term options
- SSRI/CBT (both)
- benzos (short term)
- TCA/buspirone 2nd line
what is the criteria for panic attack
abrupt surge of intense fear that peaks within minutes
What is the diagnostic criteria for panic disorder
1+ panic attack followed by >1 month of worry about additional attacks or changes in behavior to avoid attacks
do NOT only occur to specific trigger
what is the treatment for panic disorder?
1st line: CBT + SSRI (paroxetine)
Adjuncts: BZD for PRN use
what is the diagnostic criteria for agoraphobia
basically 6+ months of fear of trapped in public/open spaces without access to help in case they are in trouble or develope embarrassing s/s
what is the tx for agoraphobia
SSRI/CBT
what is the criteria for social anxiety disorder
Persistent (6+ months) of marked fear/anxiety about 1+ social situations in which the pt is exposed to possible scrutiny by others
Big part is fear of SCRUTINY
What is the diagnostic criteria for acute stress disorder
Exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violation with acute stress reactions lasting 3 days to 1 month.
What is the treatment for acute stress disorder
trauma oriented CBT
what is teh diagnostic criteria for PTSD
esxposure to trauma with symptoms lasting greater than 1 month
what is the treatment for PTSD
1st line - trauma oriented CBT with exposure therapy
can add SSRI or SNRI
what is the dianostic criteria for OCD
the presence of obsessions, compulsions, or both, that are time consuming (>1hr/day) or cause significant distress
