definition of panic attack
4+ of the PANICS symptoms for 4-10 minutes
panic disorder
at least 1 month of persistent, unexpected panic attacks with persistent worry about additional attacks, worry about consequences of attacks and change in behavior due to attacks
agoraphobia
onset of anxiety when leaving home due to fear of outside environment
specific phobia
excessive, persistent fear cued by a specific object or situation, exposure will immediately provoke anxiety response, situation is avoided or endured with great distress
social phobia
persistent fear about one or more social performance situations due to fear of scrutiny by others, exposure will immediately provoke anxiety response, situation is avoided or endured with great distress
generalized anxiety disorder
6+ months of excessive, generalized worry
obsessions
recurrent, persistent, intrusive and inappropriate thoughts or impulses that the person recognizes are products of his/her own mind
compulsions
repetitive acts or behaviors aimed at relieving distress in response to obsession
OCD definition
presence of obsessions and compulsions that cause distress and are time-consuming and significant enough to interfere with functioning
ego dystonic
inconsistent with one’s own beliefs and attitudes (OCD)- they don’t like acting like this, they recognize it is abnormal
PTSD
exposure to a traumatic event followed by more than 1 month of re-experienceing, increased arousal, avoidance and negativity
acute stress disorder
symptoms of PTSD lasting 3 days-4 weeks
