Mild anxiety symptoms?

Mild: Aware, alert, heightened senses
Intervention: Use energy to promote learning
Moderate anxiety indications and interventions?

Moderate: Decreased ability to see, hear, understand. Will verbalize anxiety.
Intervention: Encourage verbalization of experience
Severe anxiety indications and interventions?

Allow?
Severe: significant reduction in ability to see/ hear/ understand. unaware of and unable to verbalize anxiety use of relief behaviors.
Intervention: Allow relief behavior, dont focus on them, encourage talking.
Panic anxiety indications and interventions?
Self absorbed
Flight of Ideas
Confusion
Relief behaviors: run, pace, aggression
Intervention:
Stay with them
Use concise direction
Ask them what they are feeling
Do not touch
Identify medications for treatment of panic disorder (1)

What is Selective Mutism?
What is Agoraphobia?
Selective Mutism: Failure to speak in social situations (consistently)
can only speak to specific people
Agoraphobia: Fear of being in places where you might get trapped or embarassed. (Standing in line of a busy supermarket).
First line treatment for Panic disorder except meds?

CBT
During Panic
* Reduce stimuli
* Offer PRN meds
* Stay with patient (pace along)
* Ensure safety
* Clear concise communication
After/Before
* Nutrition (avoid caffeine etc)
* Encourage Physical Activity
* Coping/relaxation/breathing/ distraction
* Allow patient to vent
What is Generalized Anxiety Disorder?
Symptoms?
Excessive anxiety or worry that is difficult to control
Restlessness
Fatigue
Difficulty concentrating
Irritability
Muscle tension
Sleep disturbances
