What is Anxiety?
A mood state characterized by STRONG, NEGATIVE emotions and BODILY SYMPTOMS off tension in which an individual/child anticipates future DANGER/MISFORTUNE.
What 3 things can parents do to support their children to cope with ANXIETY?
- Decrease Accomations
Eg. Social Situations - Collaboration between parents
Eg. Perspectives, Time, Attitudes, Blame - Reverse Roles
Eg. Parent with role of assurance, getting out of home
What are the 4 steps to assisting someone with ANXIETY?
- LEARN (psycholeducational)
- RELAX (physiological component)
- CHALLENGE THOUGHTS (cognitive restructuring)
- FACE (experiments)
