Antivirals Flashcards
What are examples of hepatitis B treatment drugs and what do they do
Tenofovir which is a nucleoside analogue
reverse transcriptase inhibitor
What are examples of hepatitis C treatment drugs
Rivavirun
Boceprevir
What does ribavirin do
Nucleoside analogue (purine analogue)
What does boxeprevir do
Protease inhibitor
Describe the HIV life cycle
- attachment and entry
- replication and integration
- assembly and release
What happens in the attachment and entry stage of the HIV life cycle
Viral membrane proteins interact and bind leucocyte membrane proteins causing viral capsid endocytosis via HIV GP120 binding to CD40, CCR5 or CXCR4
What happens in the replication and integration stage of HIV
reverse transcriptase converts viral RNA to DNA which is integrated into host DNA
what are different mechanisms of action of antiretroviral drugs
- entry inhibitors
- RT inhibitors eg Nucleoside and non nucleoside analogues
- Integrase inhibitors
- Protease inhibitors
List some nucleotide analogue drugs
Ribavirin, aciclovir
List a protease inhibitor
Boceprevir
Give a neuraminidase inhibitor
Oseltamivir
What are examples of entry inhibitor drugs
Retrovirus, leukocytes
What are examples of RT inhibitors
nucleoside analogue - zidovudine
non-nucleoside analogues - efavirenz
What are examples of integrase inhibitors
Raltegravir
What are examples of protease inhibitors
Saquinavir
