Anti-influenza uses
A
Influenza A or B
Must be begun w/in 48 hours of symptom onset. Can decrease by 1-2 days

Anti-herpes drugs
A
Acyclovir [Zovirax]
Valacyclovir [Valtrex]
6
Q
Anti-herpes MOA
A
inhibitors of the viral genome. needs viral kinase to become active once inside the cell. Targets the viral DNA
7
Q
the -acyclovirs uses
A
Herpes Simplex
- orally, shortens symptoms duration and mean duration of pain.
- lower daily doses can be given for secondary prevention/recurrent infection
- Can be given IV for serous HSV infections
Varicella Zoster
- oral acyclovir will decrease number of lesions and duration, higher doses are required
