the -acyclovirs uses

A

Herpes Simplex

  • orally, shortens symptoms duration and mean duration of pain.
  • lower daily doses can be given for secondary prevention/recurrent infection
  • Can be given IV for serous HSV infections

Varicella Zoster
- oral acyclovir will decrease number of lesions and duration, higher doses are required
