Tobramycin
Amikacin
Good coverage of aerobic gram negative bacteria
Ex. pseudomonas, klebsiella, serratia
Infections: sepsis/urosepsis, intra-abdominal infections, osteomyelitis
Ciprolaxacin (cifro)
Active against aerobic organisms, most gram negative and some gram positive.
Ex. Respiratory, GI and GU infections
Tetracycline
Agents of choice against chlamydia and rikettsial diseases (Rocky Mountain spotted fever)
Used in acne and periodontal disease
Trimethroprim
Sulfamethoxazole (TMP- SMZ)
(Bactrim)
Broad spectrum including many gram negative and gram positive.
Use extensively for UTI, Pneumocytosis jerovici pneumonia
Erythromycin
Gram + and some gram - bacteria
Ex. Sinusitis, respiratory, skin, community-acquired pneumonia, H. Pylori
Azithromycin (zithromax)
Clarithomycin (Biaxin)
Treatment: legionella and chlamydia
Vancomycin
A potentially toxic antibiotic only used to treat serious infection
Active only against gram+ bacteria
Metronidazole (flagyl)
Targets aerobic organisms, including parasites and bacteria:
C. Difficile
