Antiplatelet Agents Therapeutic Actions
• Blocks the receptor site on the platelet membrane which prevents platelets from sticking together and clumping
Antiplatelet Agents Indications
- CV disease that are prone to clogged vessels
- Keep grafts open/ patent
- Prevent cerebrovascular occlusion (strokes and TIAs)
- Adjuncts to thrombolytic therapy after MI and to prevent another MI
- Aspirin: Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects
• More effective against arterial thrombosis
Antiplatelet Agents Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindication:
• Allergy
• Pregnancy/ lactation
Caution:
• Bleeding disorder
• Recent surgery
• Closed-head trauma

- Bleeding disorder
- CNS: Headache, dizziness, and weakness
- GI distress

Hx: allergy, Pregnancy and lactation, known bleeding disorder, recent surgery, or closed head injury
Physical: vital signs, weight, heart & lung sounds, skin, perfusion(pulses) (baseline)
