Antigen recognition by T cells Flashcards
Immunologically naïve
Haven’t interacted with a foreign protein
Key features of adaptive immune response
Diversity
Memory
Can discriminate self from non-self
T cell : target interaction
T cell receptor interacts w MHC of antigen-presenting cell
T cell receptors
T cell have receptors on their surface consisting of a single antigen binding site and transmembrane proteins.
Similar to antibody Fab region, but membrane bound and a slightly different structure
How does recognition differ between TCRs and antibodies?
Antibodies recognise whole, folded proteins
TCRs recognise short segments from anywhere in the protein present in the MHC
What happens when TCRs recognise antigens?
They DO NOT bind
Antigen is broken down and then bound to the MHC, not the receptor
TCR structure components
Variable and constant regions
Heterodimer molecule
Glycoproteins
Linked by a disulphide bond
Transmembrane region
V short cytoplasmic tail

Which MHC class do CD8+ recognise?
