Antibody Disorders Flashcards
Heart defects, hypocalcemia and absence of a thymic shadow on CXR, what are these symptoms associated with?
DeGeorge Syndrome
Which immune deficiencies are most common
Which are more common? Primary or seconday immunodeficiencies
Secondary
How did she describe antigen presentation differently in terms of B cells and T cells
In what order can the antibodies be made in terms of the ordering of the gene segments
[IgM] < [IgG and IgD] < [IgA and IgE]
What is memory antibody
IgG
Clinical patterns of immune deficiencies
- Lymphoid tissue or nasal polyps
- Eczema, cutaneous non-healing lesions, rashes
- Hepatorsplenomaegaly
Why do we do a UA test in patients suspected of being immunodeficient
Kidneys might be damaged, they may allow proteins to leave in the urine, leading to low immunoglobulins levels in the blood
Arthralgia
Joint pain
Selective IgA deficiency
- Complete absence of IgA (has to be complete, which is less than 6).
- IgA reaches adult levels around the time of puberty
- The rest of the immune system and Igs are normal
- Patients also have autoimmune disease
- Patients also have allergies like asthma or food allergies
Prophylactic treatment
Actions taken to prevent a disease. In the case of IgA deficiency we give low doses of antibiotics daily or three times a week to the patient
What disease is associated with scarring of the bronchus (bronchiectasis)
Commonvariable Immunodeficiency (CVID) and CF
CVID
CVID clinical presentation
Part of the immune system is overactive resulting in autoimmunity and the other part of the immune system is underactive resulting in low levels of IgG, IgA and/or IgM
What is the treatment for CVID
IVIG and subcutaneous (SC) IG (these are patches that gives Ig through the skin)
