What are the 4C antibiotics?
Co-Amoxiclav
Ciprofloxacin- All ending in ‘floxacin’
Clindamycin
Cephalosporin
Why should 4C antibiotics not be used?
Due to the risk of C. Diff infections
What three antibiotics are generally used in empiric treatment and what do they cover?
Amoxicillin- Gram +ive
Gentamicin- Gram -ive
Metronidazole- Anaerobs
Can you drink alcohol with metronidazole?
No
Why can’t you mix metronidazole and gentamicin in saline?
Will precipitate out
What is a side effect of giving vancomycin too fast?
Red man syndrome
