C = Confusion U = Blood Urea Nitrogen >7 R = Respiratory Rate >30 B = BP Systolic
What should you think if the SEWS is >4 and there is an infection?
Sepsis
What clinical signs and symptoms indicate sepsis? (6)
Temperature >38 or 20 Pulse >90 RR >20 WCC >12 or 20 Altered mental state Neutropenia
What makes up the sepsis 6 bundle?
TAKE
Blood cultures
Serum lactate and full blood count
Urine output
GIVE
High flow oxygen
IV antibiotics
IV fluid resus
What antibiotics are given for mild/ moderate community acquired pneumonia?
Amoxicillin
What antibiotics are given for severe hospital acquired pneumonia?
IV amoxicillin + metrondiazole + gentamicin
What antibiotic is given for a non-severe c diff infection?
metrondiazole
What antibiotic is given for a severe c diff infection?
Vancomycin and/ or metrondiazole
What antibiotics are given for an uncomplicated female lower UTI?
Trimethoprim or nitrofurantoin
What antibiotics are given for a complicated UTI or pyelonephritis?
IV amoxicillin and gentamicin
What antibiotics are given for cellulitis?
flucloxacillin
What is the centor criteria?
- Fever
- Purulent tonsils
- Cervical lymphadenopathy
- NO cough
>3/4 then probably bacterial
What antibiotic is given for a bacterial tonsillitis/ pharyngitis/ sore throat
Penicillin
Why is amoxicillin avoided in sore throats?
If it is infectious mononucleus (glandular fever) then will cause a red rash
