Antiarrhytmic Info Flashcards
Nickname for class Ia Na blockers
Membrane stabilizers
Vaughan Williams classification
1a: Na: slows phase 0 in ventricular muscle fibers
1b: Na: shortens phase 3 in vent muscle fibers
1c: Na: markedly shortens vent muscle fibers
2: Beta blockers: inhibit phase 4 in SA and AV nodes
3: K: prolongs phase 3 in vent fibers
4: Ca: inhibits action potential in SA and AV nodes
Toxic side effects of Quinidine (Quinidex)
cinchonism: unclear vision, vomiting, sweating
Torsades de Pointes: polymorphic V Tach
Negative side effects of Disopyramide (Norpace)
Negative inotrope and increased SVR
Side effect of Procainmide (Procan, Pronestyl)
May cause reversible lupus erythematosus
Beta blocker antiarrhythmic uses
Metoprolol: most common
Esmolol: short acting, so used in surgery and emergency
Arrhythmias beta blockers are used for
Atrial tachycardia (AV nodal reenterent most common) Post MI ventricular arrhythmias
K channel blockers
Reverse use dependence reversal
Prolong QT
Amiodarone side effects
Hypotension, bradycardia, ARDs, pulmonary fibrosis
Nausea, jaundice, blue skin, hyperthyroidism
Droned alone side effects
Like Amiodarone without iodine so no blue skin BUT
High risk of stroke and death
Sotalol properties
Beta blocker
K channel blocker
Ca channel blocker cardiac effects
Verapamil> Cradizem > Nifedipine
Opposite for vasculature effects
Use dependent drugs
Na and Ca channel blockers
