nitrates mech of action:
cause vasdialation because of relaxation of smooth muscles, potential dialating effect on coronary arteries, both large and small cororonary vessels,
nitrates indications:
treats stable, unstable, and vasopastic angina
rapid acting nitrates:
used to treat acute anginal attacks, SL tablets, IV infusion
long acting nitrates:
used to PREVENT anginal episodes
nitrate contrainindications:
allergy, severe anemia, cerebral hemorrhage , closed-angled gluacoma, HYPOtension, use of erectile dysfunction meds
Nitrate adv effects:
HEADACHE, dizzy, irritations, tolerances, hypotension, tachycardia, syncope
what to do with nitrate tolerances:
by allowing a regular nitrate-free period to allow enzyme pathways to replenish, remvoe path at bedtime for 8hrs apply new one in morning
Nitrates routes:
SL, PO, IV, patches, ointments, sprays
nitrate examples:
isorobide denigrate, nitroglycerin

nursing management nitroglycerin:
dont chew or swallow SL form, potency is lost about 3 months after so date bottle, light can effect it, buring sensation
