Metronidazole
A
1st line treatment in C. difficile colitis
Treatment of H. pylori and dental infections
Used for anaerobic cover in intra-abdominal sepsis
Anti-protozoal agent and has good
anaerobic cover and effective against clostridia.
GI disturbance: nausea & vomiting
- Metallic taste in mouth
- Dizziness, headache
- Reaction when taken with alcohol → Vomiting

Aciclovir and Famciclovir
A
Treatment of HSV: -Topical
Treatment of VZV: -Oral, higher doses than for HSV. Shortens duration and number of lesions.
-Genital herpes
GI upset: Nausea
- Headache
- Reduce doses in renal impairment
- Nephrotoxicity & Neurotoxicity in large IV doses

*Tamiflu has no real reduction of complications in normal patients, but worked for pregnant women and the immunocompromised.
