Anti-muscarinic (COPD) Flashcards
1
Q
What are the two examples of anti-muscarinic drugs we were given?
A
Ipratropium (synthetic)
Tiotropium
2
Q
What is the MOA of anti-muscarinic drugs?
A
Non-selectively competitively antagonizes muscarinic receptors –> decreased guanyl cyclase activity –> decreased cGMP –> decreased bronchoconstriction
3
Q
Where is intranasal ipratropium excreted?
A
Urine (nephro metabolism)
4
Q
Where is non-intranasal ipratropium excreted?
A
Feces (nephro metabolism)
5
Q
Where is tiotropium excreted?
A
Primarily feces (nephro metabolism)
6
Q
What is an issue with oral inhalation (mist) administration of anti-muscarinic drugs?
A
CV death
MI
Stroke
7
Q
Why is intranasal safer?
A
Longer acting–1 day compared to 3-5 hours
