Salicilism

Anti-Inflammatory, antipyretic, analgesic
Adv effects: GI upset, kidney probs, HTN, dyspnea, bronchospasm, clotting issues
Contraindications: peptic ulcers, heart disease
Broken into 3 categories based on derivative
NSAIDS first gen
Advil, naproxen, indomethacin, diclofenac, meloxicam
2nd gen NSAID prototype Acts on cox 2 only Used for arthritis Adv effects: HA, dizzy, sleep disturb HTN, risk of CVA or MI Less GI effects than 1st gen
Celecobix (Celebrex)
Unlike other NSAIDs
2 types: neurotic agent & uricosuric
Treat build-up of uric acid
Anti gout meds
Mitotic agent inhibits WBC integration into tissues with uric acid crystals
Adv effects: drowsy, dizzy, HA, marrow depression, NVD, abd pain
Push fluids
Colchicine (Colcryx)
Uricosuric agent that inhibits the enzyme that converts purines, which come from food, into uric acid
Dosage decreases based on creatinine
Allopurinol (zyloprim)
Things controlled by cox 1
Blood to kidneys
Enhance platelet aggregation
Dcrs gastric acid, incrs bicarb
Thing controlled by cox 2
