Anti-ice & Rain Protection Flashcards
Which Flight Deck windows are heated? What causes the ON (green) lights and OVERHEAT (amber) lights to illuminate and extinguish?
Both Left and Right #1&2 Windows
GREEN: Indicates power is being applied to the respective window. Extinguishes if the switch is positioned to off, a system failure has occurred, a window overheat has occurred, window temp exceeds the predetermined level (43c)
AMBER: Indicates an overheat condition (62c) for the respective window. Extinguish after window cools sufficiently and is reset by placing the heat switch to off, then on.
What are the components of the rain removal system?
Windshield wipes and a rain repellent coating on the windows.
What does the Engine Anti-Ice system protect from icing? How is heat provided for engine anti-ice?
Protects the cowl lip.
Heat is provided through 5th and 9th stage bleed air from its respective engine.
How does Engine Anti-Ice affect stall speed and engine thrust?
Sets stall warning logic for icing conditions?
Increases idle N1 percentage
What does a COWL ANTI-ICE (amber) light indicate?
Illuminates due to excessive pressure in the duct leading from the Cowl Anti-Ice valve to the cowl lip.
What does a COWL VALVE OPEN bright blue light indicate? Dim blue? What other indication of engine anti-ice are there?
Bright Blue - Valve in transition or disagreement from switch position
Dim Blue - Open with switch ON
TAI (Thermal Anti-Ice Indication) is displayed above N1 gauge.
What does the Wing Anti-Ice system protect from icing?
Provides protection for the 3 inboard leading edge slats.
What happens when position a Wing Anti-Ice switch ON?
In air: opens both control valves, sets stall warning logic.
On ground: opens both control valves if: thrust on both engines is below takeoff, temperature in both ducts is below 125c
On the ground, if takeoff power is applied or either temperature sensor senses a duct overtemperature. Valves will automatically close.
Which external probes, vanes, ports, antennas, are electrically heated?
-PITOT
-ELEV PITOT
-ALPHA VANE
-TEMP PROBE
With the PROBE HEAT switches in AUTO, under what conditions will heat be applied to the probes?
Once one Engine is running
