Anti-Arrhythmic Pharmacology Flashcards
What are the different classes of anti-arrhythmic drugs?
Class 1 – Na channel blockers
Class 2 – Beta Blockers
Class 3 – Repolarization delay
Class 4 – Calcium channel blockers
Other
What are the Na channel blockers?
Procainamide, Lidocaine, and Flecainide
What are the NA channel blockers used for?
Life threatening ventricular rhythms
What nonselective beta blocker can be used for tachyarrhythmia’s?
Propranolol
What are the other most common indications for propranolol?
Angina, essential tremors, migraine, and anxiety
What selective beta blockers can be used for arrhythmias?
Metoprolol & Atenolol
: What is our repolarization delay medication?
Amiodarone
If a patient had a recent MI and new onset of afib, what medication would they likely be placed on?
Amiodarone
So amiodarone can be used off label for afib, but what is it mainly used for?
Life-threatening/unresponsive Vfib & Vtach
What calcium channel blockers can we use for arrhythmias? What’s their class?
Nondihydropyridines – Verapamil & Diltiazem
Can you use a calcium channel blocker with a beta blocker?
NO
Can you use a calcium channel blocker for HF?
NO – except for amlodipine
What medication is our naturally occurring nucleoside?
Adenosine
What medication can be used during PSVT to help slow it down to help with diagnosis?
Adenosine
What is the other use of adenosine?
Stress testing
