Anterior thigh muscles Flashcards
what are the 4 anterior thigh muscles
Pectineus
Iliopsoas (made up of 3 muscles)
Sartorius
Quadriceps Femoris ( 4 headed muscle)
Pectineus
Pectineal line of superior pubic ramus
Pectineal line of the femur
Femoral nerve
Adducts and flexes thigh, assists medial rotation
Iliopsoas
Chief Flexor of the thigh
Consists of 3 muscles - Iliacus, Psoas major and minor.
Illiacus + Psoas = iliopsoas
pass under the inguinal ligament
Psoas Major
PA
DA
N
A
PA - Side and Tps of T12 - L5 and IVD (intra vertebral discs?)
Lesser trochanter
Anterior rami, lumbar nerve L1-3
Activating with iliacus, it flexes thigh and stabilises hip. side- bend and balances trunk when contracting in isolation.
Iliacus
PA
DA
N
A
Iliac crest and fossa, sacral ala
lesser trochanter of femur
Femoral nerve
Flexs thigh at hip, stabilises hip joint.
Sartorius
PA
DA
N
A
Produces movement results in cross legged position
Longest muscle in the body
ASIS
Superior medial tibia
Femoral nerve
Flexion, adduction, external rotation of hip, slight flexion of the knee joint, medially rotates leg when knee is flexed
Quadricpes Femoris
4 headed muscle of the thigh
Rectus Femoris
Vastus Lateralis
Vastus Medialis
Vastus Intermedius
attachs to the patella and tibia, purpose of the patella is to increase the force of the quadricpe, also protects anterior knee joint.
Vast med and lat have additional attachment - Med and lat patella retinaculae
Rectus Femoris
PA
DA
N
A
Rectus Femoris - AIIS
They all unite at the quadriceps tendon which attaches to base ( superior end) of patella via patella ligamanet.
Femoral Nerve
Extends leg at knee joint, Rectus femoris assists in thigh flexion
Vastus Lateralis
PA
DA
N
A
Vastus Lateralis - Greather trochanter & lateral lip of linea aspera
attaches to base ( superior end) of patella via patella ligamanet and lat patella retinaculae
Femoral Nerve
Extends leg at knee joint
Vastus Intermedius
PA
DA
N
A
Anterior & Lateral surfaces of shaft of femur.
attaches to base ( superior end) of patella via patella ligamanet
Femoral Nerve
Extends leg at knee joint,
Vastus Medialis
PA
DA
N
A
- intertrochanteric line & medial lip of linea aspera.
attaches to base ( superior end) of patella via patella ligamanet.
Femoral Nerve
Extends leg at knee joint
