Anterior Thigh Muscles Flashcards
The Iliopsoas muscle consists of?
Psoas Major and Iliacus muscles
Psoas Major Origin
Lumbar Vertebrae
Iliacus origin
Iliac Fossa of the Pelvis
Iliopsoas Attachment
Lesser Trochanter of the Femur
Action of Iliopsoas
Flexes and Laterally Rotates at the Hip
Psoas Major Innveration
Anterior Rami of L1/L2/L3
Iliacus Innveration
Femoral Nerve (L2/L3/L4)
Quadriceps Femoris consists of how many Muscles and what are they called?
4 - Rectus Femoris
Vastus Lateralis
Vastus Intermedius
Vastus Medialis
Rectus Femoris Origin(s)
Ilium, just Superior to the Acetabulum and the Anterior Superior Iliac Spine (ASIS)
Quadriceps Femoris Attachment
The 4 Muscles converge to form a tendon (Quadriceps Tendon) which attaches to the Patella
How does the Patella attach to the Tibia
Patellar Ligament
Quadriceps Femoris Action
Extension at the Knee Joint
Additional action of Rectus Femoris
Flexion at the Hip Joint.
It is the only part of the Quadriceps to cross 2 joint structures.
Innervation of the Quadriceps Femoris muscles
Femoral (L2/L3/L4)
Which of the Vastus Muscles is the Deepest
Vastus Intermedius
Sartorius Origin
Anterior Superior Iliac Spine
Sartorius Attachment
Superior Medial Surface of the Tibia
Sartorius Actions
At the Hip: Flexion, Abduction and Lateral Rotation
At the Knee: Flexion
Sartorius Innervation
Femoral (L2/L3/L4)
Pectineus Origin
Pectineal line on the Anterior Surface of the Pelvis (Superior Pubic Rami)
Pectineus Attachment
Pectineal line on the Posterior side of the Femur, just Inferior to the Lesser Trochanter.
Pectineus Action
Adduction and Flexion at the Hip Joint.
Pectineus Innveration
Femoral (L2/L3/L4). May also have innervation from the Obturator nerve (L2/L3/L4)
Test for Femoral Nerve Damage
Patient in Supine Position with the knee slightly flexed. Ask them to extend the leg and resist their movement. Quadriceps definition should be evident if normal.
