Anterior + Medial Thigh Flashcards
State the superior, lateral and medial borders of the femoral triangle
SAIL
Lateral - sartorius
Medial - medial border of adductor longus
Superior - inguinal ligament
What are the contents of the femoral triangle?
Femoral VAN, femoral canal (contains lymph nodes and vessels)
Which spinal nerves make up the femoral nerve?
L2-L4
What is the femoral ring and what are its boundaries?
Base of femoral canal. Femoral hernias can occur here. A: inguinal ligament P: pectineal ligament M: lacunar ligament L: femoral vein
What is the common insertion of the quadricep muscles?
Patella via patella tendon
What is the common action of quadriceps?
Extension of knee joint, stabilise patella
What is the common innervation of the quadriceps?
Femoral nerve, L2-L4
What is the adductor canal and what are its boundaries?
Contains femoral vessels + saphenous nerve as they pass between femoral triangle and popliteal fossa.
A: sartorius
P/M: adductor longus + magnus
L: vastus medialis
What is the arterial supply to the anterior compartment?
Femoral artery
What is the function of muscles in the medial thigh compartment?
Adduction
What is the innervation of the medial thigh?
Obturator nerve, L2-L4
What is the arterial supply to the medial compartment?
Obturator artery
What is the adductor hiatus?
Gap between adductor Magnus + femur which allows passage of femoral vessels
