Anterior and Medial Thigh Flashcards
Femoral Nerve
L2 - L4
Obturator Nerve
L2 - L4
Sciatic Nerve
L4 - S3
Tibial Nerve
L4 - S3
Common Fibular Nerve
L4 - S2
Patellar Reflex
Testing patellar tendon reflex tests the function of the femoral nerve and spinal cord segments L2 - L4
Absence or decrease - Westphal’s sign
Calcaneal Tendon Reflex
Tendon reflex tests the S1 - S2 nerve roots
If there is a problem in the nerve root the ankle reflex is virtually absent
Sartorius m.
Function: thigh flex, ABduct, laterally rotate
Innervation: Femoral n.
Longest mm, most superfical anterior mm
Pes Anserinus
Common insertion for:
Sartorius tendon
Gracilis tendon
Semitendinosus tendon
Clinical Anatomy: Groin Pull
Groin - junction between trunk and thigh
Strain, stretching & some tearing of the proximal attachments of thigh adductor/flexor mm.
Three Thigh Compartments
Anterior - extension, femoral n.
Medial - ADduction, obturator n.
Posterior - flextion, sciatic n.
Hilton’s Law
a joint is innervated by the very same nn that supply the mm that move the joint and supply the skin over the joint
