Anterior and Lateral Leg Flashcards
What is the innervation of the tibialis anterior?
Deep fibular nerve (L4,5)
What is the blood supply to the extensor digitorum longus?
Anterior tibial artery
What is the innervation of the fibularis tertius?
Deep fibular nerve
Where can you find the medial (deltoid) ligament of the ankle?
Attaches medial malleolus to multiple tarsal bones
What is the blood supply to the fibularis longus?
Fibular branch of the posterior tibial artery
What is the blood supply to the fibularis brevis?
Fibular branch of the posterior tibial artery
What is the proximal attachment of the tibialis anterior?
Proximal tibia, fibula and interosseous membrane
What is the function of the collateral ligament complex of the ankle joint?
Resist inversion of the ankle joint
What is a Pott’s fracture?
Occurs when foot is forcibly everted. This pulls on the strong medial ligament
How does the most common ankle joint injury occur?
Foot plantar flexed, inverted, and abducted. Strain forced on calcaneofibular and anterior talofibular ligaments of the LATERAL ligament of the ankle joint
What is the blood supply to the fibularis tertius?
Anterior tibial artery
What is the proximal attachment of the fibularis brevis?
Inferior lateral surface of fibula
What is the proximal attachment of the extensor hallucis longus?
Proximal tibia, fibula, and interosseous membrane
What is the distal attachment of the fibularis longus?
Base of the 1st metatarsal and medial cuneiform
What is the distal attachment of the fibularis brevis?
Dorsal surface of tuberosity on lateral side of base of 5th metatarsal
What is the action of the fibularis brevis?
Everts foot and weakly plantarflexes
