16
Q

Anterior tibial artery origin

A

Inferior border of popliteus muscle

17
Q

Anterior tibial artery course

A

Inferior border of popliteus muscle, through interosseus membrane to reach anteriorcompartment.
Descends on the interosseus membrane in the superior one third of the leg, between tibialis anterior muscle (medially ) and extensor digitorum muscle (laterally). In the middle 1/3 of leg lies between tibialis anterior muscle (medially) and extensor hallucis longus muscle (laterally). Inferior one third it is crossed by the extensor hallucis longus at the ankle joint, and it lies between extensor hallucis longus (medially) and extensor digitorum muscle (laterally).

18
Q

Deep fibular nerve

A

Superior 1/3 lateral to anterior tibial artery
Middle 1/3 anterior to artery
Lower 1/3 lateral to the artery

19
Q

Anterior tibial artery continuation

A

Dorsal is pedis artery in front of the ankle joint underneath extensor retinaculum

20
Q

Anterior tibial artery branch on posterior aspect of leg

A

Posterior tibial recurrent artery (supplying the back of the knee joint)

21
Q

Anterior tibial artery branch on anterior leg

A

Anterior tibial recurrent branch (skin of the knee joint)

22
Q

Anterior tibial artery branches

A
Posterior tibial recurrent (post knee joint)
Anterior tibial recurrent (skin of knee)
Muscular branches (anterior compartment)
Anterior medial malleollar artery
Anterior lateral malleolar artery
23
Q

Deep fibular nerve course

A

Branch of common fibular nerve (one of 2 terminal branches)- within Fibularis longus - on lateral aspect of the neck of fibula
Pierces anterior inter muscular septum to reach anterior compartment
Passes through upper part of extensor digitorum longus
Descends on the interosseus membrane (with the anterior tibial artery)
Lateral/anterior/lateral to arterial artery
Runs anterior to ankle joint to reach dorsal surface of the foot

24
Q

Deep fibular nerve branches

A

To muscles of the anterior compartment :tibialis anterior, extensor hall long, ext digit long and Fibularis tertius

25
Q

Lateral compartment of leg contents

A

Muscles- Fibularis longus and brevis
Superficial fibular nerve
Perforating branches from fibular artery

26
Q

Fibularis longus origin and insertion

A

Superior 2/3 of lateral surface of fibula to medial cuneiform and base of the 1st metatarsal

27
Q

Fibularis longus action and innervation

A

Superficial fibular nerve,

  • eversion of foot at subtalar and midtarsal joints
  • plantarflexion of foot at ankle joint
  • maintains transverse and lateral longitudinal arches of foot.
28
Q

Fibularis brevis origin and insertion

A

Inferior 2/3 of lateral surface of fibula to base of 5th metatarsal

29
Q

Fibularis brevis action and innervation

A

Superficial fibular nerve
Eversion of foot at subtalar and midtarsal joints
Plantarflexion f foot at ankle joint
Support of lateral longitudinal arch of foot

30
Q

Superficial fibular nerve course

A

Terminal branch of common fibular nerve on lateral side of neck of the fibula.
Superior 3rd- descends in the substance of Fibularis longus
Middle 3rd- emerges from Fibularis longus to lie between it and Fibularis brevis
Lower 3rd of leg pierces deep fascia to descend in the superficial fascia
Crossing superficial to the extensor retinaculum to enter the dorsum of the foot
Divides into medial and lateral termina branches

31
Q
