A

Subtract 3 months

What is quickening?

A

Fetal movements felt by mother

May indicate fetus is nearing 20 weeks

Can be felt as early as as 16 or as late as 22 weeks

Multiparous women usually report quickening before primigravidas do

How you asses fetal heart beat

A

Ultrasonic Doppler is the primary tool for assessing FHT’s

May detect at 10 to 12 week gestation

Normal FHT is 110-160 bpm

What is a good prenatal schedule in a healthy pregnancy?

A

Every four weeks until 28 weeks

Every two weeks until 36 weeks

After 36 weeks, weekly until delivery

A

She’ll need a shot of Rogam.. and if the baby is RH + after delivery.. she’ll need another shot of rogam

What do we test for in the third trimester?

A

Screening for Group B Streptococcus (GBS) at 36-37.6 weeks

GC/CT vaginal swab (gonorrhea, and chlamydia)

Danger signs in pregnancy?

A

Sudden gush of fluid from vagina

Vaginal bleeding

Abdominal pain

Temp > 101

Dizziness, blurred/Double vision

Persistent nausea, vomiting, severe headache

Edema to face, hands, feet, legs

Absence or decreased fetal movement

What are some physiological maladaption in pregnancy?

A

Increased anxiety or depression

Inability to communicate

Inappropriate responses/actions

Inability to cope with stress

Indications of substance abuse

Denying pregnancy

Intense preoccupation with sex of baby

Failure to plan/prepare for baby

Why do we screen for GBS?

A

Because if you are positive and we don’t treat it.. the baby is at higher risk for infection like sepsis or pneumonia.. that could kill the baby
