  • BMI above 30kg/m^2
  • Previous macrosomic baby weighing 4.5kg or above
  • previous gestational diabetes
  • Family history of diabetes( first-degree relative with diabetes)

How can we test for GDM?

A

75g 2hr oral glucose tolerance test at 24-28weeks

-Don’t use fasting plasma glucose

What is HbA1c?

A
  • A form of haemoglobin that is bound to glucose
  • Aka glycosylated or glycated haemoglobin
  • Routinely performed in people with type 1& type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Normal range is under 42mmol/mol
  • Pre diabetes ranges from 43/47mmol/mol
  • Above that= diabetic level
  • We don’t use this to test for GDM
