Outline the 3-delay model
A
- 1st delay= the recognition by women and families of the need to seek care
- 2nd delay=accessing care
- 3rd delay=receiving appropriate care in the facility

A
-Number of maternal deaths/1000 live births

What must be checked at every antenatal visit in order to detect pre-eclampsia?
A
-Blood pressure & urine

What is a maternal ‘near miss’
A
-A woman who nearly died but survived a complication that occurred during pregnancy, childbirth or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy

Define Nulliparous
A
A woman who has never given birth either by choice or for any other reason

What are some risk factors for gestational diabetes mellitus ? (GDM)
A
- BMI above 30kg/m^2
- Previous macrosomic baby weighing 4.5kg or above
- previous gestational diabetes
- Family history of diabetes( first-degree relative with diabetes)

How can we test for GDM?
A
75g 2hr oral glucose tolerance test at 24-28weeks
-Don’t use fasting plasma glucose

What is HbA1c?
A
- A form of haemoglobin that is bound to glucose
- Aka glycosylated or glycated haemoglobin
- Routinely performed in people with type 1& type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Normal range is under 42mmol/mol
- Pre diabetes ranges from 43/47mmol/mol
- Above that= diabetic level
- We don’t use this to test for GDM
