Antamony and Physiology Flashcards
Anatomy
Is concerned with the structure of living things
Physiology
Is the study of the functions of living things
What are the two types of cell types?
Prokaryotic
Eukaryoitc
What are tissues?
A tissue consists of a group of closely associated, similar cells that carry out a specific function
What are the four types of tissue?
Epithelium
Connective tissue
Muscle
Nervous tissue
Features of the Epithelium
Sheet-like layer of cells
Lines external body surfaces
Lines hollow organs or vessel
Function of the Epithelium
As a barrier and a transport membrane
Epithelial Tissue
Consists of a dense population of cells packed closely together
Hollow organs like the gut, lungs, and urinary tract are lined with epithelial cells
Epithelial cells
Connects via speciliased cell-cell junctions called tight junction and desmosomes
3 types of epethlium
Squamous epithelium
Cubodial epithelium
Columnar epithelium
Connective tissue
Most diverse of the four tissues
Anchors and links structures of the body
What are the different types of connective tissue?
Loose connective tissue
Dense connective tissue
Elastic connective tissue
Reticular connective tissue
Muscle cells
Specilaized to contract
Voluntary or involuntary
What are the 3 types of muscle tissue?
Smooth muscle
Skeletal muscle
Cardiac muscle
Nervous tissue
Transmit signal for communication
have branches to recieve or transmit messages
Receive info from receptors
transmit info to muscle and other organs
